Performed with Hammonds Band
We are most grateful to choir members for their support of this concert.
Conductor: James Savage-Hanford
Accompanist: Robert Sudall
Musical Director, Hammonds Band: Morgan Griffiths
Join us for an evening of music from the world of opera and musical theatre. Sometimes exhilarating and rousing, sometimes reflective and poignant, but always enjoyable. A combination of old favourites together with some unexpected surprises.
The programme will include opera choruses from Purcell, Handel and Mozart, The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves and The Anvil Chorus by Verdi, together with Mascagni’s The Easter Hymn. This collection covers a range of periods and operatic styles.
Musical theatre will be represented by the Great American Songbook of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Carousel (You’ll Never Walk Alone) and a compilation from South Pacific. This is paired with a choral medley from the great Stephen Sondheim, including Comedy Tonight and Send in the Clowns.
We are delighted to be joined by our good friends Hammonds Band, one of the country’s premier brass bands, under the expert guidance of their musical director, Morgan Griffiths. They will enhance the evening by exciting works from their own extensive repertoire.
